Do you head to your pantry every morning for a cup of kopi? Or maybe to the drinks stall near your workplace for teh? You are what you eat. And drink. Here’s what you get out of both.
Kopi (aka Coffee)
Coffee ups your energy level
It’s a well known fact. People feel less tired when they drink coffee and because it contains caffeine, coffee increases your energy levels. When you consume coffee, caffeine blocks an inhibitory neurotransmitter called Adenosine which leads to a stimulant effect. This then improves the energy levels, mood and various aspects of brain function.
Coffee burns fat
And you think caffeine only improves your energy levels. Caffeine is in fact one of the very few natural substances that have been proven to aid fat burning. Several studies show that caffeine can increase fat burning and boost the metabolic rate.
Coffee makes you happier
A study found that individuals who drank 4 or more cups of coffee per day were 53% less likely to commit suicide. Another study learned that women who drank 4 or more cups per day had a 20% lower risk of becoming depressed.
Coffee may help you live longer
Studies have shown that coffee helps prevent Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia. It also helps to lower the risk of Parkinson’s disease while also having protective effects on the liver. That’s not all. Coffee drinkers are found to have a lower risk of liver cancer and colorectal cancer. I’m not finished. There is also evidence to suggest that female coffee drinkers have a reduced risk of heart disease and in general, a 20% lower risk of stroke.
What’s not to like about coffee?
Until you meet tea.
Teh (aka tea)
Tea prevents blindness
Because tea contains high levels of antioxidants, drinking tea helps prevent blindness caused by cataracts and components in green tea also positively affected the tissues of the eye, especially tissue related to the retina.

Tea helps reduce stress
Feeling stressed? Tea has been found to reduce levels of stress hormones and with that reduces blood pressure hence lowering the risk for heart attack or stroke. It was also found that six months of black tea consumption lowered systolic blood pressure.
Tea increases brain power
Yup. Brain power as in reaction time and memory and increased focus and concentration.
