Although the study doesn’t specifically mention why Millennials aren’t looking for jobs, the study infers that it could be because more Millennials are attending college and there are less low-skilled jobs available in the job market.
Regardless of where you are in your career, you should never give up on finding the best opportunities for yourself. Here are five reasons why you shouldn’t abandon your job search:
1. You’re in control of your job search.
If you’ve been searching for a job for a long period of time without any luck, it might feel like your job search is out of your control. The reality is, you’re the only person who’s in control of your job search and it’s up to you to make the most of it.
When it starts feeling like your job search spiraling downward, step back for a moment and look for areas of improvement. Let’s say you decide to examine your cover letter. You might realize your cover letter isn’t as strong as it should be. If so, reach out to a friend or colleague who could give you a second opinion. This will give you the opportunity to make updates on your cover letter that will help you land a job.
2. You have the opportunity to switch things up.
Keeping yourself motivated during your job search can be a challenge. Especially if you’ve been using the same job search techniques for several weeks or months, finding a job can become draining.
If you’re feeling burned out from your job search, don’t give up. You still have the opportunity to turn your job search around. For example, if you’ve only applied for jobs posted to job boards, you might want to start researching niche job sites or making a list of employers you’d like to work for. This will give you a fresh start.
3. You need to separate yourself from other job seekers.
Sometimes, it takes a little creativity to land a good job. There’s no doubt that the job market is extremely competitive, so it’s important to take the right measures to stand out from other job seekers.
You don’t have to do anything crazy or over-the-top to get noticed by hiring managers. There are actually a few simple things you can do to make your mark on an employer.
