Our employees are what truly make Glassdoor a fun, challenging and unique place to work. We have some pretty amazing people with many backgrounds and different personalities who have a real passion for what they do. So, we thought what better way to show what working at Glassdoor is like than to have our own employees share their stories? So, today we’re kicking off an interview series where we ask our employees about what life inside Glassdoor is like for them. We want to give you the ability to hear right from employees in varying roles at our company why they chose to work here and what get’s them excited to come to work each and every day.
First up is Mike Abell, Senior Web Developer on our engineering team. Mike has been with Glassdoor for a little over a year.
How did you first find out about an opportunity at Glassdoor and what was the process like?
I heard about the position from an agency recruiter, Marcus Dubois, who is now a technical recruiter at Glassdoor. I actually referred him in after he placed me here before we had an in-house recruiting team. The process was technically grueling like most engineering interviews. However, everyone I met was friendly and communicative. What sold me the most was the chance to work with the people I interviewed with. Everyone I met with were very knowledgeable, understanding and friendly—and they are to this day! I love my co-workers. When I was interviewing, I could really see myself growing and becoming a stronger and better engineer here. A year later and this is exactly the case.
How does the Glassdoor mission “to help people everywhere find jobs and companies they love” resonate with your own passions?
I have a true passion for wanting to help people. In any context, whether it’s someone on the street who needs an extra dime to a co-worker struggling with a technical issue, I fundamentally enjoy and feel good when mentoring and helping others.
What excites you about working at Glassdoor?
I’ve been given opportunities to work on large and technically demanding projects and I don’t see that stopping. Leadership at Glassdoor is truly motivated to bring up the ranks and groom new hires to not only become better engineers but strong leaders as well. What excites me the most right now is the types of projects I’m working on have a direct measurable effect on the growth of Glassdoor as a business.
What does the future look like for Glassdoor and how do you think you are personally helping to shape it in your current role?
I see us being a successful, game changing company. I think we will grow but we won’t stray far from our friendly small company roots, simply because I don’t see our executive team letting that happen. I’m helping lead the development of a new team that will play a significant role in growing our company’s revenue. I’m excited for the challenge.
